Danube Swabians presented the largest ethnic group in the city up to the Second World War. Timisoara is located in the three-country-corner of Romania, Hungary and Serbia: due to the favourable geographical location, the city is given good economic opportunities in the "new Europe”.
Its architecture, characterized by Viennese Baroque and Art Nouveau of the 20th century, gave the city the nickname "Little Vienna”. Timisoara is considered to be Romania’s western gate with excellent transport links. Timisoara has in recent years evolved to become the second largest economic centre of Romania.

Therefore, Belgrade is often referred to as a gateway to the Balkans. The landmark of Belgrade is the fortress of Belgrade that was frequently embattled throughout history, and that towers above the confluence of the Sava into the Danube. Nearby is the historic University Observatory and across the river ( in Novi Beograd) is the Sava Centre, the largest conference centre on the Balkan (built 1977-79).
