Risnjak national park
The Risnjak National Park is located in Gorski Kotar – the, so-called, ‘Croatian Switzerland’. It lies in close proximity to the Adriatic Sea. The area surface is 63.5 km2 , which covers the middle part of Risnjak and the Snjeznik massif, and the upper reaches of the river Kupa and its headwaters. The Risnjak massif was declared a National Park in 1953, after the suggestion of Dr. Ivo Horvat, a substantial natural scientist and explorer of Risnjak.
